Voices from the Margins and Inclusive Policy Responses to Covid-19 Pandemic

'Voices from the Margins and Inclusive Policy Responses to Covid-19 Pandemic' is a research endeavour being undertaken by the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ), Brac University funded by, and in collaboration with the Covid Collective Platform of Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex.

The research aims at two high impact outcomes: First; by establishing effective and inclusive feedback loops, this ensures that public policies and responses to Covid-19 are adequately informed by the needs, aspirations and perceptions of communities at the margins of power and influence. Second, by creating credible and open channels of communication between the state and citizens, a virtuous trust building cycle is set in place and accountability, transparency, inclusivity and responsiveness can be at the heart of relief and recovery from this pandemic.

The mixed-methods research followed by the study employs both quantitative and qualitative approaches to collect feedback from the selected groups of marginalised communities on their understanding of, and demand for healthcare policies and responses. Building on the concept of marginalisation as a process and a condition that prevents individuals, or groups, from full participation in social, economic, and political life, the research focuses on five impoverished and marginalised communities namely - a) Rural households, b) Urban slum dwellers, c) Ethnic & religious minorities, d) Female headed households, and e) Persons with disabilities. read more
